BLURRED lines have left one left motorist warning shoppers to be wary when parking in Leominster.

Fay Evans, 40, received a penalty charge notice for parking her vehicle outside of the official bays in the Dishley Street car park.

She claims the double yellow lines are so faint that they act as no deterrent and is disgusted with Herefordshire Council for issuing the fine.

She said: "My friends and I travel to Leominster once every couple of weeks from Bewdley to look around the charity shops and things like that.

"We can’t believe that not only are they deterring locals but people like me that travel quite a distance to come and have a look around.

"I just think it’s disgusting I really do. I have said I will be watching to see how long it takes for the lines to be re-painted over."

Mrs Evans successfully appealed the £50 fine – reduced to £25 if paid at once – but said she wants to make sure others are aware that it could happen to them.

"I just don’t want it to happen to anybody else that’s too scared – or perhaps an OAP without the technology to capture evidence – to challenge it and will just hand over the money," she said.

"It hasn’t put me off coming to Leominster but I will be very, very aware of where I’m parking."

In a statement, Herefordshire Council said Dishley Street car park was inspected last Friday after a complaint was received regarding the faint lining and an appeal received against a penalty charge notice.

"The bay markings were found to be in poor condition which could result in motorists inadvertently parking fully outside the marked bays," the statement said.

"Consequently, parking enforcement officers have been instructed not to issue a penalty charge notice to any vehicle that parks beyond the bay markings."

The bays are due to be relined at the end of February.
