A brave Ledbury woman says the onset of breast cancer will not prevent her from fund-raising for a children's charity, to help very poorly youngsters and their families.

In August, before she was diagnosed, Jeanette Davis did a fund-raising sky-dive from 10,000ft, over Swindon.

Now, as the 48 year old undergoes chemotherapy at Hereford Hospital, she is determined to keep the fund-raising going.

This is despite the fact that Miss Davis, of Elmsdale Road, is also facing both surgery and a course of radiotherapy in 2015.

She said: "I have a long year ahead of me. But I will carry on fund-raising. I need to get a bit better first.

"Unfortunately I`ve recently been diagnosed with breast cancer and am currently on chemotherapy. My hair is falling out !"

However, she said she would consider "anything" as a fund-raising idea.

And Miss Davis has a very personal reason for fund-raise for "Amy and Friends Cockayne Syndrome Support", because the children of two close friends, a boy and a girl who live locally, have the life-limiting illness, Cockayne Syndrome.

Miss Davis, who was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in November last year, said: "I did the sky dive in August to raise money for the fantastic charity, Amy and Friends. This is a charity which supports affected children and their families.

"These children suffer from Cockayne Syndrome, which is life limiting."

The average life expectancy of children with the syndrome is 12, because it causes premature ageing.

However, some youngster with the syndrome live into their early twenties.

The two local children with the illness are ten and 12.

Miss Davis added: "The skydive kicked off a fabulous fundraising campaign and to date my friends and I have raised £4900. My aim is to reach £5000 very soon and hopefully beyond."

Cockayne syndrome is a rare recessive congenital disorder which can lead to growth failure, impaired development of the nervous system, sensitivity to sunlight and premature ageing.

Other symptoms can include hearing loss and eye problems, and damage to internal organs.
