Ledbury has received high praise in the Sunday Times's list of the fifty best rural communities in the UK, and a big point in its favour, apparently, is "cider with everything, and everyone".

The market town "on the edge of the Malvern Hills, surrounded by farmland and apple orchards", came in at number 24, in an alphabetical list, which began with Aberaeron in Wales.

Ledbury's charms in the list, compiled in partnership with the property search website, Zoopla, included independent shops "there are far more than most towns can muster", and "friendly banter from shopkeepers".

The Feathers Hotel in the High Street gets a mention for "fine fare such as roast Herefordshire beef sandwiches", and the Market Theatre gets the nod for "shows and music events."

The listing also acknowledges Ledbury's "carefully preserved timber-framed buildings".

The average house price in Ledbury, as given by Zoopla, is £264,386.

The listing for Ledbury also gave a nod to the recent "supermarket wars" in town, when the community was divided on whether or not a superstore should be built off the by-pass.

Without recognising that Ledbury, in fact, has two sizeable supermarkets, the Sunday Times article concludes, "There's a bit of a debate going on about the lack of good supermarkets, but you can't have everything and Malvern's Waitrose is only a 15 minute drive away."
