A MUSICAL concert to mark Holy Week is taking place at St Catherine’s church in Hoarwithy.
The annual concert is next Wednesday, April 1 and will feature musicians of the Musical and Amicable Society under Martin Perkins, who are again joined by the Chapter 5 singers.
The main work to be performed is Membra Iesu Nostri by Dieterich Buxtehude (1637-1707), a sequence of seven cantatas composed in 1680, each dedicated to a part of Christ’s body – hands, feet, face, knees, heart etc.
The musicians will also be playing some 17th Century viol pieces for one and two instruments by Parisian composers Sainte Colombe (1630-1701) and his pupil Marin Marais (1656-1728).
Holy Week is the week before Easter, commemorating events in the last days of Jesus' life on Earth. It begins on Palm Sunday and ends on Easter Monday.
The concert has been funded by the Alan Cadbury Charitable Trust.
Tickets are £15 from Rossiter Books in Ross-on-Wye and The Outback in Church Street, Hereford.
Under 18s free. Price includes interval wine and nibbles.
