FIVE Putley gardens will be open to the public on May 16, to raise funds for the parish hall and the village church.

Event spokesman, Tim Beaumont said: "The five gardens range in size; from several acres to a small terrace garden whose owners are looking for inspiration from kind suggestions.

"The centuries old church is open whilst the church grounds hold a remarkable example of an early Preaching Cross and what may be a unique War Memorial. The carvings around the Alter were created by the same crafts men who worked on London’s Albert Memorial."

Mr Beaumont, who will be opening his own garden to the public, added: "All gardens are accessible on footpaths from the two car parks. Mostly through blossoming orchards and pasture, affording magnificent views. There are stiles on some of the paths. Each garden has nearby parking space for disabled drivers, though parts of some gardens are un-able to accommodate wheelchairs."

Refreshments will be available from 11am in the parish hall, provided by villagers and the 1st Burley Gate Scouts.
