The Herefordshire team were recognised for their outstanding success nationally and internationally- they were named the second best burger team at the Las Vegas World Food Championships.

Also awarded a Mayor’s Commendation was John Jones, a director at Philip Morris and Son in Widemarsh Street, for his outstanding leadership of Hereford’s successful bid for Business Improvement District status.

The status is granted by Government and will raise £1m over the next five years to be spent on improving the look, feel and amenities of the city centre.

The Core SkateHereford came first and took £1,000 for its indoor roller skating facility, which opened in August at Foley trading estate.

It is used by hundreds of youngsters each week and plans are in place to enhance the facilities, which are also used for a range of other indoor sports. It is run entirely by volunteers.

The Mayor congratulated the group on winning a Sport England Clubmark.

The chairman of Hereford in Bloom presented a high commendation to Saxon Hall for creating a garden at their site and presented the annual In Bloom award for a neighbourhood project to the Belmont Haywood Country Park Supporters- their second success of the night.
