A LEOMINSTER opticians has been offering customers sweet treats as part of its drive to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s Society.

Scrivens Opticians & Hearing Care, on West Street, invited customers to buy a cake for the charity to mark Dementia Awareness Week. Staff also wore red, white and blue and decorated the branch in the same colours.

Scrivens has chosen Alzheimer’s Society as its main charity for 2015 and is on target to have raised £1,500 for the charity following its 'bake off' challenge.

As part of its partnership, branch employees have been trained as dementia friends to help change people’s perceptions of the condition.

Manager, Hannah New, said: "Dementia touches so many families. We have been learning more about it and the small things that can make a difference to people in our community. Our bake sale gave us a chance to raise awareness of the charity and the need for funds for research and support."
