A HEREFORD man tried to steal food from a supermarket because he had no other way to feed himself, a court heard.
Dane Galliano, 22, of Wye Street, admitted theft at Hereford Magistrates Court last week.
This meant he was also in breach of a 12 month conditional discharge, which was given to him on April 9 for theft from a shop and being drunk and disorderly.
On May 4, the court heard, he stole groceries worth £7 from Asda in Hereford.
Chris Read, defending, said Galliano had been struggling financially for some time.
He said he successfully made a claim for benefits, but after he missed an appointment they were stopped for four weeks.
"He now realises he could have gone for a crisis loan," Mr Read added
Galliano was fined £75, ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £20 and a £150 criminal court charge.
Magistrates allowed for the conditional discharge to continue.
