THERE are around 1,100 people living in care homes in Herefordshire over the age of 65, according to the 2011 census.

Care homes across the county took part in the National Care Home Day to show their local communities what they do.

According to the 2011 census, Herefordshire has a population of over 65s of 39,016, with 1,156 of these living in care homes.

Whitegates in Bromyard took part in the initiative, with the Town Crier announcing the open day in the streets.

Deputy mayor of Hereford, Jim Kenyon attended, and there was music from jazz guitarist Remi Harris.
