THE name of a county charity was taken on the road when a team of cyclists from around Herefordshire completed a 100-mile cycle challenge.

The 50-strong team – made up of Balfour Beatty Living Places colleagues as well as others from around the county – spent two days cycling from Hereford to Aberystwyth to raise funds for the ELY Memorial Fund.

The charity was set up in August 2012 in memory of Emma Louise Young, who was tragically killed in a collision when she was just 23.

It provides financial assistance for funeral costs to families who lose a son or daughter aged between 17 to 25 in a road traffic collision.

Steve Jay, a close family friend and event organiser, said: "Everybody enjoyed it so much we want to do it again next year and will encourage other people to do it."

The team camped overnight in Rhayader before continuing on their journey, faced with strong winds, to Aberystwyth.

Mr Jay estimates that the challenge raised between £3,000 and £4,000 and said that it was important to continue to raise the profile of the charity.
