STUDENTS and staff at a Herefordshire school will be walking as far as the city that never sleeps - without leaving the county.

The 3,357 miles will be walked by those at the Queen Elizabeth Humanities College in Bromyard in a bid to raise more than £3,000 for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

The challenge takes place at the end of the current school term and involves each year group completing a circular walk from Colwall to the Herefordshire Beacon on the Malvern Hills and back again, with a couple of additional circuits of the school playing field.

The school’s fundraising efforts will boost money already raised for the Teenage Cancer Trust by county resident Steve Trafford in memory of his late brother Ed Trafford, a former QE student.

“We are especially grateful to coach companies DRM of Bromyard, PW Jones of Burley Gate and LMS, Worcester, for providing transport for our pupils to and from Colwall,” said QE headteacher, Martin Farmer.

“Their support will really help the school to raise money for this excellent charity.

"Once again the local community have stepped up to work with us for a worthwhile cause.”
