A BIRTH has brought together five generations of females from the same Herefordshire family for the second time in two decades.

When Daisy Humphrey was born in September she became the fifth generation of females born in the family from the Madley and Kingstone areas.

There are now 85 years between baby Daisy and the matriarch of the family – her great great grandmother, Denise Knight.

In between them is Daisy's mother, 22-year-old Georgina Thomson, her grandmother Dawn Thomson, 41, and her great grandmother Yvette Barber, 62.

The Hereford Times visited the family when Georgina, who now lives in Plymouth, was born 22 years ago and became the fifth generation.

Sadly, five became four when Georgina's great great nan, Beatrice Preece, died in 1999.

Yvette, who has 18 grandchildren and three great grandchildren as a mother to four children, said the large family gathered to celebrate Daisy's birth with a party.

And she's hopeful that five generations may one day become six.

"You never know. Gran was 94 when she died and my great gran was 84 when I was born," she said.

"We seem to be quite long-livers. We keep our fingers crossed that we might one day make six."

Mrs Barber added that the family all got on very well and said it was "lovely" to have five generations again.
