MORE than 30 trees were cleared away from county roads last night as Storm Barney hit Herefordshire.

Hereford Highways were busy thoughout the night and removed more than 30 trees from the highway.

Balfour Beatty Living Places, on behalf of Herefordshire county council, last night worked to clear 31 trees and branches from the roads.

Six trees were later cleared this morning.

While no road closures were required as a result of the fallen branches and trees, members of the public are reminded to be aware when out in stormy weather.

On finding any fallen trees or branches obstructing roads or footpaths, call the council on 01432 261800. 

The border town of Presteigne and the surrounding area was the worst effected with 81 homes hit by the power-cut from around 9am yesterday morning until 8pm last night.

Pockets of homes were also hit in the villages of Eyton and Ashton near Leominster and in the border village of Kyre. There was also homes effected in Lyonshall, at Bush Bank and properties near Kingstone.
