A GRANDFATHER who suffered from "black moods" took his own life, an inquest heard.

Edward Kirkham, known as Ted, was found hanged in his garage at his home in Hallets Well, Orleton on August 16.

The inquest at Herefordshire Coroner's Court heard Mr Kirkham, aged 62, had suffered with depression throughout his life.

He had been on medication at times, which had helped, although he was not on any at the time of his death.

In a statement his wife, Sandra, said he had "awful black moods" and "he was like a different person when he was in one of his moods."

Mrs Kirkham said the day before he died they had spent a lovely day out with their granddaughter, who was staying with them, but in the evening he started to go into a "black mood."

In the morning she went for a walk with her granddaughter and when they returned home Mr Kirkham was found dead.

Coroner Mark Bricknell recorded a conclusion of suicide with a cause of death recorded as asphyxia.
