TWO Herefordshire women have shared photographs of the blizzard that hit New York this week.

Emily Lander, from Stoke Prior, was in the Big Apple when the city experienced its second highest snowfall since records began – with 26.8 inches falling in Central Park.

The 26-year-old, who works as a member of cabin crew, said she had been due to fly home last Saturday but the airports were closed so her stay was extended until Monday.

The former Minster College student said: "We walked to Central Park in the morning and around Times Square.

"I've never seen New York so quiet and I have been there around 20 times now. Most of the shops were closed by midday and the roads were empty.

"It was so quiet and peaceful. It was very windy and at points me and my friend were holding or hiding behind walls and had to stop to buy more socks and a extra jumper as it was freezing.

"It was an amazing experience."

Jules Cooper and her three-year-old daughter are in Long Island, Port Jefferson, New York.

She is from Hereford originally and they were caught up in the snow blizzards on Saturday.

She said: "It was a truly memorable experience that I will never forget and my daughter will probably tell her children one day all about the 2016 snow blizzards."

She added: "I have never ever in my life been in a snow blizzard. We only were out for about two minutes and it was so cold but it was the actual blizzard that cuts you through, you can't see anything in front of you, but it was amazing experience and I will never forget."
