TRAFFIC problems in Hereford last night were caused by faulty traffic lights on a pedestrian crossing, the council said.

Commuters were left exasperated last evening as they sat in longer than usual queues in and around the city centre.

Michelle Morgan, spokesman for Herefordshire Council, said: “We are aware of the traffic problems experienced by motorists travelling southbound in Hereford City last night and the subsequent knock on effects throughout the city.

“This was due to a fault on the traffic lights on the pedestrian crossing on Belmont Road. Our engineers have now resolved the issue and we don’t foresee any further problems.

“We apologise for the obvious inconvenience caused.”
