A SIX-week consultation will ask county residents for feedback on a scheme which allows them to engage with Herefordshire Council on planning matters.

Herefordshire Council's updated Statement of Community Involvement (SIC) gives comprehensive information on the various ways people can have more participation in the shaping and on-going development of the area around them.

This includes Neighbourhood Development Planning, Community Right to Build and Neighbourhood Development Orders.

The SIC sets out the council’s commitment to engage with all those potentially interested in planning and development in their area and the methods used to do this.

A six-week public consultation will be launched on Wednesday (February 10) on the revised SIC.

Herefordshire Council said it will use electronic communication, including email, its website and social media, where possible to reach the most people and to keep costs low.

Information points, such as libraries and customer service centres across Herefordshire will also be fully utilised.

The council said new legislation published between 2011 and 2012 has meant a move away from a planning system deep-rooted in central Government and is now firmly placed on early engagement and collaboration between local authorities, neighbourhoods, local organisations and businesses.
