MORE than 800 people have thrown their support behind a campaign to save a GP walk-in centre in a Hereford Times poll.

The Herefordshire Clinical Commissioning Group is considering closing the walk-in centre next to Asda, with plans to implement seven-day GP services across the county instead.

A petition launched in a bid to save the service has received more than 2,000 signatures and a poll, run on the Hereford Times website this week, has bolstered the campaign.

A total of 827 people took part, with an overwhelming majority of 83 per cent of voters saying they believe it is crucial the GP walk-in centre remains open.

Only 15 per cent of voters disagreed and said they thought a seven-day GP service would be a better option.

A public consultation will begin in the coming weeks with closures of the walk-in centre and minor injury units, should they go ahead, earmarked for August.

The CCG said no decision has been made on any services as the future provision is still being investigated and decisions will only be made following a thorough public consultation.

One per cent of voters in the poll said they didn’t care either way while the remaining one per cent said they didn’t know.
