PEOPLE in Hereford’s Moorfields neighbourhood say they are among the biggest victims of the recent hike in car park charges.

The inner city area is one of the final few without a residents’ parking scheme (RPS) and means many commuters are now pulling up there to park for free.

Brenda Sullivan, 82, is one person who has noted the difference.

The pensioner lives in Macmillan Close and says inconsiderate motorists regularly block drives and can become aggressive if asked to move.

“We see them in their uniforms so we know they are working nearby,” she said. “One person even has a Morrisons jacket on so it shows how far people will walk to park for free.”

She said the streets behind The Courtyard are particularly affected when Hereford FC play their home matches. But a solution could be on the way.

Ward councillor Polly Andrews has spoken to neighbours about an RPS.

Despite the cost, now at £30 per vehicle in some areas, Mrs Sullivan believes it would stop a problem that is out of control.

“Carers and builders cannot gain access to properties,” she added. “The drivers are just so confident and don’t see anything wrong. You see them sat there, putting their make-up on and doing their hair!”
