HUNDREDS of people turned out to say their final farewell to a popular Leominster man who was killed in a car crash.

Michael Healey, 32, tragically died after the car he was travelling in was involved in a head-on collision with a lorry on the A443 near Lindridge.

In a touching tribute this week, the people of Leominster lined the streets for his final journey through the town, before paying their respects at a service held at the town's Priory Church.

Friends from Mr Healey’s football team carried his coffin both into the church and into the Crematorium in Hereford and his dad, Martin Healey, delivered a personal and funny eulogy during the service.

The final song on the way out was 'You'll Never Walk Alone' and friends and family sang this again together at Shooters Bar later that day.

A slideshow was also shown at Shooters Bar, displaying photos of Mr Healey’s life.

Tributes poured in following the news of Mr Healey’s death, with family members describing him as ‘warm’ and ‘funny’.

His mum, Carol Jones, sister, Tracey Austin, and dad, Martin Healey said: “He would do anything for anyone, that’s why he was so popular.

“If you met him and were a complete stranger to him, in no time he would be talking like you were old mates. "

Following the accident on April 14, Mr Healey was airlifted to Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital where he sadly later died.

The driver of the car, Mr Healey’s 25-year-old fiancée Beky Stuchbery, was also treated at the scene and taken to hospital, suffering abdominal and pelvic injuries.

Mr Healey was brought up in Leominster, attending the town’s infant, junior and secondary schools.

Most recently he worked at Seconds and Co in Presteigne and was also well-known for taking part in judo and playing football locally.

It is believed that as many as 600 people attended Thursday's service.
