A 22-year-old man accused of threatening to destroy or damage a Newent pub was today remanded to await jury trial.

Jake Stevens of Buscombe Gardens, Hucclecote, Gloucester, pleaded not guilty at Gloucester crown court to making a threat to Daniel Yeandle, landlord of the George Hotel, Newent, that he would destroy or damage the property on April 16 this year.

He also denied an offence of affray by threatening to use unlawful violence on April 1.

Judge Jamie Tabor QC told him his trial would be on a date to be fixed in October.

Also in the dock was Stevens' brother Riley, 27, of Southend Lane, Newent, who admitted the same affray charge and also pleaded guilty to three offences of assault by beating on the same date, April 1.

One of the assault victims was Mr Yeandle and the others were Sarah Johnson and Ben Purvis.

Riley was bailed with a curfew and a condition not to go to Newent.
