ORGANISERS of a fascinating collection of historic photographs of Leominster are urging people to get in touch with their own contributions.

Grange Court in Leominster is the setting for ‘Leominster Through Time: photography exhibition and archive project’, a unique collaboration between the centre’s heritage development officer, Hannah Vernon, photographer Chris Preece, and the Museum Resource Centre in Hereford.

In all their black and white glory, the photographs chart the story of the town: Orphans press are there, a wool merchants is bursting with sheep fleeces, the butchers shop front is loaded down with animal carcases, the house maids smart in their starched aprons and caps, the champion penny farthing cyclist stands proud with his winning cups.

These are just a sample of what is on show, charting town life, and Hannah is keen that as many people as possible come to see the exhibition. She said: “These are a fantastic set of photos covering a whole range of subjects. I hope that as more people come to see them they will be able to offer more insights and help us gather more information about them.”

But it doesn’t stop there.

Visitors are being invited to take their own pictures of Leominster this summer.

Chris said: “We hope that this old collection of photographs will inspire others to take pictures of Leominster and Leominster people during 2016."
