A SOLDIER has died while on a training exercise in the Brecon area on the hottest day of the year.

The Ministry of Defence said an infantry soldier from the Rifles regiment died yesterday, when temperatures in Brecon peaked at just above 30C.

The soldier has been named as Josh Hoole.

In July 2013 three soldiers died while taking part in an SAS training exercise in the Brecon Beacons during 29.5C heat - one of the hottest days of that year.

Lance Corporals Edward Maher and Craig Roberts were pronounced dead on the beacons after suffering heatstroke during a 16-mile SAS test march.

Corporal James Dunsby died from multiple organ failure in Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital more than two weeks later.

A coroner ruled that neglect played a part in their deaths.
