HEREFORD ranks fifth in the UK in a list of the most profitable places to rent out accommodation on the popular Airbnb site.

Digital marketing business Builtvisible released the data which said it revealed home owners in Hereford could earn 576 percent more if they rented out their accommodation on Airbnb, than if they privately let it.

Airbnb is a website where people can list or book accommodation around the world.

The data was taken from May and the Airbnb potential revenue refers to the total yield per calendar month and has been calculated using the average rental price on an entire one bedroom property and the assumption this is occupied for three weeks out of four each month.

According to the data, this left Hereford nearing the £3,500 mark for how much a landlord could earn from renting on Airbnb, compared to a monthly average private rent income of around £500.

But the marketing business does admit it depends on whether landlords can fill their properties enough times to break even.

It said there is higher demand near national parks and of course, in London.

When looking for accommodation in Hereford for a whole flat/ home to accommodate two people the Airbnb website said the average price is £99 per night.

A coach house for two people in Hereford is £90 per night with a £22 service fee.

A cottage in Hereford for two people, but can sleep three, is £75 per night with a cleaning fee of £15 and a service fee of £21.
