BIG wings over Much Marcle will bring in big crowds to the annual Model Air Show, which looks set to be a record-breaker this year.

One field has already been fully booked for caravan and camping at the Rye Meadows venue, and an extra field will have to be used, to cope with an unprecedented demand.

The event, which will take place this year on Saturday, September 3 and Sunday, September 4, usually attracts thousands of spectators, with some camping and others coming for a day.

On the best years, up to 6000 people have attended.

But before 2014, when the show revived, the event had been cancelled for three years, due to bad weather.

Organisers are optimistic and keeping their fingers crossed for good weather and record-busting turn-out this year.

Large Model Association chairman, Dave Johnson said: "We've got 90 aircraft booked in, which for the Much Marcle show is a record.

"One of the aircraft will be a replica of an early Bleriot monoplane - two thirds the actual size, and we''ll have big model Lancasters and Spitfire, all the way to modern jets, including a model Eurofighter Typhoon with jet engines and an 8ft wingspan. Now all we need is the weather."

He added: "Once again, the Large Model Association will display some of the country's biggest and best models."

The Bleriot, set to be a star of the show, is famous in aviation history as the first aircraft to manage a crossing of the English Channel, back in 1909.

The model aircraft will be flying from 10am to 5pm on both days. The gates will open at 8.30am.
