BACON will be sizzling and bangers will be banging for the fifth Ledbury Big Breakfast event, an annual food celebration which is putting the market town on the map for hungry foodies.

A grand total to 21 local venues will be taking part this year, which is slightly up on last year's total, and local produce will be the order of the day, or rather the weekend, because the chance to tuck in will be spread over three days.

Ledbury Food Group organises the celebration of the best meal of the day, and group secretary, Griff Holliday said: "Ledbury will again celebrate our wonderful local food with the 5th Ledbury Big Breakfast taking place on Friday January 27, Saturday January 28 and Sunday January 29, and this year we welcome for the first time The Seven Stars, Ceci Paolo and the Homend Bakery Tearoom.

"Everyone has again excelled themselves again with breakfast specials for this event. For breakfasts with a difference try a Scottish Breakfast with tattie scones, breakfast muffin hollandaise, French toast with bacon and syrup, several interesting variations on hash with egg, smoked haddock, kedgeree in several styles, rosemary and garlic flat mushrooms, pulled pork benedict, local yoghurt, “build your own Benedict”, waffles, pancakes with bacon and cider syrup, scotch egg with tomato fondue, luxury porridge, quail scotch eggs, scrambled local eggs, apple and cinnamon loaf, a special breakfast pastry and, of course, not forgetting a full 'Herefordshire' English breakfast."

Mr Holliday added: "There is even an intriguing Syrian Breakfast bringing together local and the Orient, and a very magical, tasty and colourful Big Breakfast brunch. Many will also offer their normal breakfast menu and takeaways.

"Our butchers will again have a good range of local breakfast produce for people to take home, cook and enjoy, and you can visit the Country Market at St Katherine’s Hall on Friday to discover the local products they sell, and enjoy a simple but tasty breakfast."

Llandinabo Farm Shop and Caffè No 21 are running a competition for the best new sausage recipe. which will be available to buy during the celebration.

Mr Holliday added: "All the specials plus where, and when they will be on offer and booking details can be found at www.ledburyfoodgroup.org, and on flyers circulated in Ledbury."
