RAIL passengers suffered a delay of one-and-a-half hours after the train they were on struck a dog on the line between Hereford and Ledbury.
The incident happened at about 1pm on Monday, causing some services on the line through Worcester, Malvern and Ledbury to be cancelled, with others subjected to delay.
The dog, which was injured but not killed, was taken to Ledbury where it was placed in the care of a vet.
The stopped train resumed its journey after a delay of one-and-a-half hours.
Francis Thomas, the London Midland's head of corporate affairs, said that passengers whose journeys were delayed by 30 minutes or more would be entitled to compensation under the rail operator's Delay Repay scheme.
He said: "Anyone can claim by speaking to staff at our stations, by visiting our website or through our mobile phone app, if they have it."
