PLANS are afoot to get Hereford moving by supporting those using two wheels instead of four.

Hereford Cycle Hub launched this week as a “community interest company” founded by cyclists for cyclists.

Daniel Grice, the co-founder, said the group is looking to raise £32,534 to open a community-focused cycle cafe and workshop in Hereford city centre which will promote the benefits to anyone “yet to discover the joy of two wheels”.

“It’s an exciting time to be in Hereford,” he added.

“With dozens of independent businesses popping up in the last few years, our small rural city is putting itself on the map.

“The population is growing, but unfortunately the road infrastructure stays the same, thus increasing the need for cycling and, most importantly, cycle safety and awareness.

“This is what I hope to achieve through Hereford Cycle Hub.”

The group this month launched a a crowdfunding campaign to pay for the venture which will also include a community workshop providing cycle surgeries, Earn-a-Bike schemes and maintenance courses.

There will also be a commercial workshop providing bike repairs and maintenance, plus a store selling cycling gear and reclaimed refurbished bikes at an affordable price.

The £32,000 would, the group says, pay for the hub’s first year’s rent, plus furnishings and equipment.

An array of prizes, including cycle bags and limited edition prints have already been donated to the Cycle Hub as incentives for donations.
