A MAN who was found to be over the drink drive limit after consuming three cans of lager has been banned from getting behind the wheel for one year.

Jarrod Lucas, 23, of Pontrilas, pleaded guilty to drink driving at Hereford Magistrates Court last week.

Kriss Ewing, prosecuting, said it was at around 10.20pm on March 18 that police spotted Lucas driving with his fog lights on – despite it not being foggy – on Canal Road in Hereford.

He was stopped for that reason and subsequently admitted he had consumed three cans of lager earlier.

A roadside breath test gave a reading of 43mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath.

Marilena Divitantonio, defending, said Lucas had been at a friend's address between 5pm and 10pm where he had consumed three cans of beer but had felt ok to drive.

She apologised to the court on behalf of Lucas, who she said would never have driven the car had he realised he was over the limit.

Magistrates ordered Lucas to pay a £300 fine, court costs of £135 and a victim surcharge of £30. He was also banned from driving for 12 months.
