CIDER makers are being invited to showcase their skills in an international competition being held in Hereford.

The International Cider and Perry Competition will take place at the city's Cider Museum on Wednesday, May 10.

The competition, one of the biggest in the UK, attracts entries from throughout the UK and overseas. The closing date for entries is April 21.

Meanwhile, the museum is gearing up to host an informative and lighthearted appreciation of winning cider varieties on Thursday, May 11.

Gabe Cook, a ciderologist who has starred on nationwide television programmes as a cider expert, will bring enthusiasm and expertise to the evening, sampling ciders and perries from the International Cider and Perry competition taking place the previous day.

The evening will start at 7.30pm and admission will be by ticket only at £15 per head. This will include cheese and biscuits to help appreciate the different flavours of cider.
