MANY book lovers dream of owning their own library, filled with stories and knowledge from around the world.

And there is now a rare opportunity to make that dream come true, with a house near Kington up for sale – complete with a library with space for 10,000 books.

It is the creation of Jane and Bill Moyle, who have amassed a collection of thousands of books over the last 12 years since moving to Llanarrow, in Huntington, near Kington.

They are now looking to downsize – setting their sights out of the county on Cheltenham – so the unusual property is up for sale with a guide price of £895,000.

Mrs Moyle, who previously ran a corporate events company, said living just eight miles from Hay-on-Wye, the 'town of books', meant it was inevitable that her husband's enviable collection would continue to grow.

The library is housed in a separate two-storey high stone tithe barn. Another wing houses two studies with fibre broadband, an entrance hall, housing more books, as well as a kitchen, cloakroom, wine store and hobby room.

Mrs Moyle said: "The reaction is normally 'wow' when people see the library."

Her husband, Bill, who previously worked as a lawyer in Birmingham, said: "I have quite a cricket library, as well as a lot of plays, poetry and literature. There are also reference books and diaries.

"When I was a child I used to sit and lie on the stairs at my parents' house aged eight or nine and devour Biggles and I moved on from there.

"It would be like severing arms and legs to part with them."

The property is in an idyllic position, three quarters of a mile from the nearest lane, surrounded by unspoilt rolling countryside, a beautiful newly restored garden, containing hundreds of old fashioned roses and rare shrubs and perennials and even, at the end of the garden, meanders around a bend, the River Arrow, full of trout and at night, where otters gambol.

Mr Moyle hopes the new home will accommodate as much of his collection as possible – though his wife said it's unlikely their new, smaller house will be able to do this.

Llanarrow is for sale through Strutt and Parker in Ludlow. The partner dealing with it is Bernadette Jenkin who can be contacted on 01584 873711.
