THE Leominster community came together to support those involved with a 24-hour trek to raise funds for the town's dementia centre.

The walk, in and around Leominster, was organised by Kemble at Home, a care company based in Hereford, to raise funds for The Friends of Leominster Meeting Centre.

The centre provides unique services and support for people with dementia and their carers but could face closure in August because the Alzheimer’s Society, which runs the centre, says there is no long-term statutory funding in place.

To raise vital funds for the centre, Sandra Taylor, business and marketing manager at Kemble at Home, took on a 24-hour walk.

She set off with other walkers from the Meeting Centre at 1pm last Tuesday and returned at the same time on Wednesday when there was a pop-up street party organised by the centre.

She said: "The centre is a place where people with dementia can go and take part in various activities and feel they can be part of society.

"One of our biggest aims at Kemble at Home is to reduce loneliness with the people we care for, which is why it is so vital for places like the centre to stay open.

"We want to raise a minimum £500 through the walk in a bid to keep the centre open after August when its funding is due to stop."
