A MAN was airlifted to hospital following a two-car crash outside a primary school near Ledbury.

Emergency services were called at 3pm yesterday to a crash outside Ashperton Primary School on the A417 in Ashperton.

Midlands Air Ambulances from Cosford and Strensham were sent, along with a paramedic officer and an ambulance.

Both cars had suffered very considerable damage and there was one person in each car.

A 21-year-old man managed to get himself out of one of the cars. The ambulance service said he had fractures to his right leg, left wrist and pain in his abdomen and chest.

His leg and arm were splinted and he was given pain relief and airlifted to Hereford County Hospital.

The second man, a 22-year-old, was initially unable to get out due to the level of damage to the car.

However, he then was able to get out, with assistance from ambulance staff.

Ambulance staff said he was very shaken and had multiple cuts and abrasions to his right arm and hand, right leg and knee and left lower leg.

Pain relief was given and he was taken to Hereford County by ambulance.

Fire crews from Ledbury and Fownhope attended.
