MANY of us would love to be able to speak more than one language and there is no doubt that it is a skill that impresses prospective employers.

One group of children at a Hereford nursery have already been learning some of the lingo they might need when trying to navigate the likes of siestas and fiestas in Spain.

The kindergarten children at Beech House Nursery on Hampton Park Road, Hereford, have been getting to grips with the Spanish language in weekly sessions under the guidance of Laura Symonds.

She is a qualified teacher who enthuses the children with a love of language through fun interactive songs, games and roleplay as part of Kidslingo, which focuses on teaching Spanish to children as young as possible.

Not only does learning Spanish help develop language skills, it also promotes a broader world view and a positive attitude towards languages and other cultures.

The children's efforts were recognised with a certificate after completing their one-year Spanish 'kids lingo' course.

At Beech House there are a number of different teachers who visit the nursery to take the kindergarten children for various activities throughout the week – from Spanish to Wildplay, and from German to art with the artist in residence, Rosie Watts.
