CROWDS celebrated the county's rural heritage on Sunday at the first Herefordshire Country Fair to be held in the city.

But despite the new urban location on the King George V playing fields, the annual fair still had a line-up of traditional events including terrier racing, working gun dogs, an inter hunt relay, scurry racing, laser clay shooting, fly fishing and a parade of foxhounds.

There were also more than 100 trade stands, a shopping and craft marquee, a food hall showcasing some of the county's producers and a classic car show.

The fair was also held in conjunction with the First World War Commemoration Committee. Educational displays about the commitment, hard work and sacrifices made by the civilian population during the war years, and how this contributed to the eventual victory, were on show.

The Cavalry of the Heroes also performed a commemoration of the horses of the First World War, showing saddle tricks, cavalry charges and demonstration of horses in warfare.
