A UNIQUE race which will see teams run through the streets of Bromyard carrying a full traditional hop sack is to return later this month.
Bromyard Hop Festival takes place on Sunday, August 27 from 10am and includes a veteran vehicle parade, craft fair, and local bands as well as much more.
The main feature of the free all-day event is the Hop Pocket World Championship Race when teams of four run through the streets carrying a hop pocket – the special sack traditionally used to store dried hops.
A fully-laden hop pocket weighs 75kg which means running with it, holding on to just the corners, will require determination as well as fitness.
But not all race entrants have to suffer the full weight – there are ladies and children's classes carrying a lighter version. And this year, for the first time, there's a fancy dress category.
Hop Festival organisers are signing up runners now. More details at bromyardhopfestival.co.uk
