A SCHEME offering a no interest loan is now available to residents experiencing hardship in the Leominster area.
The No Interest Loan Scheme (NILS) enables people to fund the purchase of essential white goods, carpets, other household equipment, computers for school use and season tickets for transport to college.
The NILS scheme, which started in Tenbury before being extended to Ludlow, and now Leominster thanks to a grant from the EF Bulmer Benevolent Fund, is able to offer loans of up to £400 which can be paid back over 12 or 24 months.
The scheme deals directly with local suppliers of household equipment such as cookers and fridges and NILS arranges for them to be installed in the clients’ home. NILS does not offer cash loans.
The EF Bulmer Benevolent Fund provided an initial grant of £5,000 which has been used to set up an office in the central library in Leominster and to fund a part-time administrator.
The office is open from 10am to 2pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays and anyone who is interested is welcome to pop in.
The scheme aims to help people to manage their own weekly budgets and not waste money on paying high interest rates on loans.
