TRAFFIC in Hereford was reportedly at a standstill last night.

Work started on Belmont Road last night to resurface the carriageway.

The work is taking place between 6pm and 1am from the Belmont Tesco roundabout and just past Walnut Tree Avenue.

Work is expected to finish on Friday, September 22.

At the same time, Highways England is carrying out work on the A49 between the Starting Gate roundabout and the Belmont roundabout.

It is a re-lining scheme which started on September 11 and is due to finish on October 19. The work is being carried out between 8pm and 6am.

There are temporary traffic lights in place.

To enable them to carry out works on Edgar Street there will be a night closure of the A49 from Eign Street to Starting Gate from October 16 for three nights.

Short diversion routes will be via Eign Street, Whitecross Road, Three Elms Road and Roman Road.
