A NATURE reserve which is usually closed to the public will open its gates for a free family seed-collecting event.

Natural England is hosting the event on Sunday, October 22 and inviting people to collect seeds from the ancient trees of Moccas Park National Nature Reserve (NNR).

They will then be planted across the wood pasture restoration site next door at Moccas Hill Wood to create the veteran trees of the future.

The day will include expert-led guided walks where you can learn about the history of the site, how the trees have lived to such an age, and how they support such a vast array of wildlife.

There will also be children’s activities including an opportunity to make and decorate personalised wooden badges to take home.

Booking is essential and can be done by emailing robert.silverwood@naturalengland.org.uk or by calling 07500991835.

Members of the public can also support the restoration of Moccas Hill Wood through sponsoring a tree online at easydonate.org/NENG003 or by texting NENG003 to 70970 to give £5 or NENG003 to 70191 £10.
