YOUNGSTERS at Busy Bees pre-school in Ledbury have been enjoying the autumn by learning all about the season as a topic.

Manager Emma Davis said: "We've been on walks along the Town Trail and on the park, collecting autumn items in our brown bags.

"We thought about the colour, size and shape of leaves and why they change colour and fall from the trees at this time of year. On our return to Busy Bees, the items we collected were used to make autumn collages and head bands."

Miss Davis added:"Also over recent weeks, we've explored our Forest School area and particularly enjoyed transporting conkers. We rolled them down a long tube, collecting them in a box at the end. The children thought of ways to quickly transport them to the other end, ready to roll down again. "Conkers, cones, sticks, leaves and seeds have provided opportunities for counting and sorting items by weight and size. The children have been so engaged in the activities on offer and have come up with their own ideas with how to use the resources. Some have transferred the conkers to the play dough where they enveloped them in the dough before a big reveal, excitedly showing staff what was inside."

The children have also had fun by studying autumn weather.

Miss Davis said: "A breezy day recently was the perfect weather for swooshing and swaying scarves in the wind on the Recreation Ground.

"We swirled them in the air, making big circles, little circles and stretching high and low."
