THE trailer has now been removed from the the former railway tunnel in Burcott Road.
A trapped trailer was causing tailbacks in Hereford this afternoon.
It became stuck at around 12.45pm and was not released until 1.30pm.
The vehicle was attempting to navigate the short cut through Burcott Road when it became stuck.
Burcott Road has become a favourite route for many motorists unable to drive south on the nearby A49 because of a road closure.
Many drivers had to take one of the official diversions via Whitecross or Aylestone Hill with the Burcott Road route blocked.
The farmer whose vehicle became stuck was from Abergavenny.
He said he had taken cattle to Ludlow Market and was on his way home when he became stuck.
He said he did not know Hereford at all and was just following diversion signs.
Dave Weaver from nearby Dave Weaver Upholstery initially tried to pull out the trailer with his vehicle but was unable to do so.
David Williams, a farmer from Brinsop, then stepped in and used his Land Rover to free the trailer from the narrow walls.
Later on today another large vehicle also tried to use the cut-through but had to turn around.
