NEWENT'S Youth Advisory Group has a new logo thanks to young resident Rosie Taylor.

Rosie beat very strong competition with her entry and received a Cineworld voucher kindly donated by youth club the Chill Out Zone.

The Youth Advisory Group is a working group formed by Newent Town Council to encourage young people to become aware of how the town council works and to get them involved in various projects to benefit Newent and the people of the town.

Cllr Eli Heathfield, the town’s youngest councillor, is the group's council co-chair, alongside Eliza Taylor the student co-chair.

The group is still in its early days, and although it has members from almost all the youth groups in the town, it is looking for more enthusiastic young people who would like to have a voice on the group.

Cllr Heathfield said: “I was very pleased this project was unanimously approved by full council; being young myself, I feel it important that young people get involved in the mechanics and caring for our town. This is very exciting, after all they will be the next generation of caretakers for Newent, our beautiful town”

Eliza Taylor said: “I think a youth voice is very important in any community and Newent especially could really benefit from the input of young people. We want to know what young people think, what they want and need from our community, and we can only do that if young people tell us."

Mayor June Davies said “I am very pleased to support Cllr Heathfield in the running of YAG. Once it becomes more established, it will be a very beneficial group in the community and I hope more young people will support him in this venture and come along to the committee meetings to see what it is all about.

"It is a group for young people, to be run by young people. Congratulations to Rosie on her prize-winning logo entry.”
