A BROMSGROVE centre which offers support to stroke survivors and their families has been boosted by a £1,000 donation.

The Life After Stroke Centre, based on Church Lane, has been handed the kind donation by the West Brom Building Society’s Mercian Community Trust.

The centre, which was the first of its kind in the UK opened by the Stroke Association, has supported the stroke community in and around Worcestershire since opening in 2012.

Mark Adams, manager of the West Brom’s Bromsgrove branch on High Street, said: “The Life After Stroke Centre is well known in the area for the outstanding work it does with people who have been impacted by this devastating condition.

“We were approached by one of our local customers, Janice Boswell MBE, who is also a volunteer at the centre that has benefitted from its services in the past.

“The centre gives real hope to those people affected by strokes and we are delighted to provide this donation to help maintain the exceptional service it offers.”

The centre provides support for more than 130 stroke survivors through a range of activities including singing and yoga classes, speech and language therapy groups and rehabilitation sessions.

Abi Floyd, community and events fundraising manager at the Stroke Association, said: “With around 100,000 strokes a year in the UK, it is vital that we can raise funds for people affected and their families.

“We’re incredibly grateful to the West Brom for its generous donation.

“The money will go a long way to strengthening our services at the Life After Stroke Centre, helping to support people living in Worcestershire whose lives have been impacted.”
