THOSE who want to polish up on a family treasure lurking in in the attic can find out all about it at a Herefordshire pub later this month.

BBC TV antique expert Mark Stacey will be on hand at the Farmers Arms, Wellington Heath, near Ledbury for a special valuation day on Saturday February 24.

The family-run pub is organising the event in a bid to raise funds for a community defibrillator.

A famous face on Bargain Hunt, Flog It! and Antiques Road Trip, Mark will cast an expert eye over heirlooms brought to the pub between 12 noon and 4pm.

Landlady Hannah Joplin explains: “People can bring in their family treasures and for a £2.50 charge per item, they can find out more about them and their value, though we’re limiting the items to four per person.”

Hannah and her family are still debating which heirlooms they might put under the spotlight.

“Every year we raise money for charity, this year we have decided to try and help closer to home and are raising funds for a community defibrillator,” says Hannah.

So far their fundraising has brought in £550 towards a £2,000 target.

The plan is to base the defibrillator in the old telephone kiosk in Wellington Heath.

While Mark, who worked at Bonhams’ and Sotheby’s auction houses earlier in his career, gets to work, the pub will be busy laying on afternoon teas.

Hannah points out that customers need to book for their scones and sandwiches.
