IT may seem improbable, due to recent wintry weather, but spring is on its way and with it comes the ever-popular wild daffodil weekends of the Golden Triangle, near Ledbury.

A spokesman said: "As the snows begin to melt away we can really believe spring has arrived.

"The first wild daffodils are even now showing above the snow, heralding another spring display of wild daffodils."

Final arrangements are now in place for three major events this year at Kempley, Oxenhall and Awnells Farm (Countryside Restoration Trust).

The spokesman added: "We will once again celebrate the birth of spring when carpets of wild daffodils burst forth for visitors to see.

"Visitors can expect a wide range of activities across local villages and farms. The programme includes weekend events at each village, with organised walks, luscious daffodil teas and exhibitions on local churches."

The Golden Triangle area, near Dymock, is famous for having attracted the group of writers known as the Dymock Poets, just before the First World War, and some of them wrote admiringly about the daffodils.

Until the closure of the "Daffodil Line", which passed through Dymock, half a century ago, many of the daffodils went sent by train to hospitals in Birmingham and London, to brighten up the wards.

The Kempley Daffodil Weekend will take place on March 17 and March 18.

At the time of going to press, daffodil displays are being reported for verges in the Kempley area, and also at St Mary's Church.

The Awnells Farm event will take place on March 23.

The Oxenhall Daffodil Weekend will take place on March 24 and March 25.
