AN award-winning garden designer will be celebrating the redevelopment of a historic porcelain works at this year's RHS Malvern Spring Festival.

Olivia Kirk, who runs a design practice in Bishops Frome, near Ledbury, has been inspired Worcester's Royal Porcelain Works for her first show garden at the show in May.

The Collectors Garden will take visitors on a journey through time, using a series of planted exhibition spaces.

The garden design links the Victorian heritage of the site with its new role as a centre for performing arts and craftsmanship, due to open to the public at the end of June.

The garden features five stone plinths, three displaying historic Royal Worcester pieces painted with horticultural designs. The planting around the plinths includes some of the plants and foliage featured on the porcelain.

After the spring show, all the plants will be relocated to a courtyard garden at the porcelain works, which is also being designed by Olivia.

The garden will link a new artisan cafe with the existing Museum of Royal Worcester and the porcelain works with its newly-renovated Henry Sandon Hall, which will be an arts centre run by Worcester Live.

Olivia said: “I am extremely excited about creating a show garden at RHS Malvern Spring Festival this year, as this is my local show and it has always been close to my heart, with its majestic backdrop of the Malvern Hills.

"What I have really enjoyed is creating a design which, like the redevelopment of the Royal Porcelain Works, marries the best of its Victorian heritage with the design innovations of contemporary living.”

The garden is sponsored by Royal Porcelain Works Ltd, whose chairman, Colin Kinnear OBE, said: “We are delighted to be working with Olivia Kirk on this exciting show garden, which will help raise awareness of the major new development in Worcester."

The RHS Malvern Spring Festival is on May 10-13 at the Three Counties Showground.
