FOLLOWING the success of its scarecrow wedding last year, St Giles Church in Rowley Regis will be hosting a brand new straw-stuffed adventure this Bank Holiday.

The church in Hawes Lane will be laying on a Treasure Island themed family fun afternoon on Monday May 7 from 2pm.

Visitors are invited to make and take along their own pirate-like wurzels to the event where there’ll be a performance and a prize for the best scarecrow.

Joyce Walker from the church said: “Last year’s scarecrow wedding resulted in our community of Rowley coming together for an afternoon of fun. If visitors had fun at the event they will definitely enjoy this year’s.

"We invite people of all ages to make their own pirate scarecrow to board our ship. We ask visitors to donate for the best scarecrow. The scarecrow's creator with the most raised will win a prize of £25 and this year there will be one adult prize and one child prize.

"Should the number of visitors exceed the church safety limits, a second performance will take place to avoid disappointment.”

Visitors taking along scarecrows are advised to attend early to register their creation to avoid long queues.

All donations made at the event will go to the St Giles Churchyard Restoration Fund to help with the transformation of the church graveyard and gardens including the restoration of war graves.
