BRANSFORD seniors’ new captain Dave Miller has made a fine start to his term in office.

He held a well-supported drive-in challenge match, a successful launch to the local charity he is supporting this year and also hit a near-perfect drive.

The annual contest saw the captain’s team beat the past captain’s side 7-5 while raising over £200 for Acorns Children’s Hospice.

Miller and Dick Bettsworth halved against past captain Alan Wallcroft and Brian Corfield.

In pairs better-ball matches, Pete Anthony and Neil Holbrow lost to Roy Burton and Alan Cockill 2&1 and Mark Heason and Gerry Rebbeck won against Trevor Atkinson and Alan Ford 6&4.

Rob Blake and Graham Wilks won against Mike Davidge and Dave Parry 2&1 and Tony Lee and Bob McGrath halved against Cliff Hayes and Barry Benge.

Jeff Thomas and Harry Godwin won against John Phillips and Bill Bowen 3&2 and Dave Lindsay and Tony Bowman won against Dave Ryan and Neil Sheldon 2&1.

June Atkinson and Ken Jones lost against Roy Williams and Andrew Jarvis 2&1 and Paul Edlin and Charlie Hawkridge halved against Peter Harrison and Annie Hayden.

Brian Lawrence and Brian Taylor lost against Roger Clark and Rob Wetton one-down and Pauline Wetton and Mike Kemp halved against Rob Lawrence and Colin Weeden while Malcolm Bradley and Roger Steade won against Gordon White and Chris Hall 2&1.

Hayden was nearest the pin on the fifth and Thomas on the 15th while Bettsworth won the straightest driver prize on the 12th.

The captain’s charity fund benefitted by £238.

The seniors followed up their 6-2 club win at Burghill Valley with a 4-3 victory at Brickhampton Court.

There were wins for Miller (17) and Clark (23) 3&1, Richard Steel (15) and Lindsay (21) 5&3 and Ferey Ghani (14) and Harrison (24).

Atkinson (14) and Wallcroft (23) lost 3&2 and Davidge (17) and Sheldon (21) 6&5 while Phil Spencer (19) and Dave Randle (20) and Heason (13) and Jarvis (23) halved.

The seniors’ April medal went to Rebbeck in Division One and he also had the lowest gross.

He scored 88 gross 13 handicap 75 nett, Ford 89-12=77, David Wild 91-13=78, Cockill 99-19=80, Chris Cale 99-18=81 and Lee Dyment 101-19=82.

In Division Two, Martin Linley managed 93-23=70, 94-20=74, Bowen 101-21=80, Godwin 101-20=81 and Andy Lamb 105-23=82.

In Division Three, Steade got 105-28=77, Gerry McCurry 110-27=83, Corfield 111-26=85, Ron Perkins 119-28=91, Hawkridge 117-25=92 and Hall 123-28=95.

The club April medal was won by Jason Keane with 68.

Keane managed 88-20=68, Mark Tipton 79-7=72, Mike Madden 85-13=72, Dave Lewis 84-10=74, Darren Jones 90-16=74 and Andy Lammas 85-8=75.
