A LEADING sight loss charity is in need of volunteers for their support group aiding those afflicted by macular disease.

The Macular Society is calling out to selfless Kidderminster people who are willing to assist the group with administrative tasks such as booking guest speakers for meetings. The Kidderminster Macular Support Group hold their meetings on the second Wednesday of every month, from 10.30am - 12pm at the Corn Exchange, Vicar Street.

The next group meeting will be held on Wednesday May 9.

The Kidderminster group is one of more than 350 of its kind, offering information and encouragement to people suffering with macular disease, which currently affects more than 600,000 people in the UK.

Amanda Read, Macular Society regional manager, said: “The Kidderminster Macular Support Group provides a real lifeline for people living locally with sight loss.

“The peer support offered by the groups is vital – it’s incredibly reassuring for people to know that there are others who truly understand their situation.

“With more than 200 people in the UK being diagnosed with macular disease every day, the existence of our support groups has never been more important.

“If you have some free time and would be willing to help, either by helping to organise the meetings or assisting in some other way, we would love to hear from you.

“We will also be available to support our volunteers as they learn their new roles and provide any guidance they need going forward.”
