MALVERN Vale Academy hit nine goals to finish their Cheltenham League Division Four campaign in style.

The second-placed side now host Woodmancote United in the play-off semi-finals on Saturday while Welland Reserves entertain Malvern Vale Firsts in the other tie (both 3pm).

Academy thrashed basement boys Charlton Rovers thirds 9-0 to extend their unbeaten league run to 19 games.

Cal Hill returned from injury to fire Vale ahead on eight minutes after flying down the left wing and cutting in.

The hosts were in control but passes went astray and Ashley Griffiths' effort was cleared off the line.

But top scorer Griffiths headed in Vale’s 100th league goal of the season from a Gavin Hodgkins free-kick.

Hill then scored a third two minutes before the break.

Substitute Jake Hurdman opened his account three minutes into the second half after Ben Goode tackled the keeper.

Two minutes later, Anthony Cakebread cut into the box and fired into the far corner.

Stand-in captain Andre Rodrigues joined in with two in as many minutes.

The midfielder outmuscled the defender to steer home from a long ball and then buried a speculative effort from outside the box.

Vale made it eight when sub Arran Bovington was fouled with the goal at his mercy and he converted the resulting spot-kick.

Minutes later, Bovington fired over an open goal but then Vale added a ninth when Toby Boswell worked his way through the defence before slotting into the net.

Welland Reserves lost 4-0 at Smiths Athletic Reserves.

Meanwhile, fourth-placed Hanley Swan head to FC Barometrics Reserves in the Division Two play-offs on Saturday.

They will look for quick revenge after a 5-1 home beating by Barometrics in the league with Kevin Moore bagging a consolation goal.

Upton Town continued to keep hold of second spot in Division One with a 4-2 home win over Bishops Cleeve A in midweek.

Welland have a convincing lead at the top of Gloucestershire Northern Senior League Division Two.

They beat Winchcombe Town 1-0 last weekend with Mark Taylor scoring.
